| Centre striving to strengthen state's economy: Vakil | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | May 11 Senior vice President JKPCC and Minister for Social Welfare Abdul Gani Vakil has said that UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh are determined to strengthen the economy of Jammu and Kashmir state by providing liberal funds for developmental and welfare programmes in the state. Vakil was addressing a huge public meeting at Lapora Lolab today. The function was attended by ex-minister Sharief Nyaz and other prominent political leaders. Lauding recent Prime Minister's package for providing succor to militancy hit families, widows and deserving persons, Vakil said that all out efforts are being made to fulfill the dream of Khushal Kashmir and mitigate people's grievances. Brushing aside the tall claims of some vested interests of demilitarization and double currency, Vakil said that such claims would never be materialized adding that these attempts are aimed at damaging the very fabric of democracy and secularism and deceiving people with hollow slogans. Speaking about the progress registered in development and welfare schemes, Vakil said that record number of development works have been created by the government during last two and a half year of coalition regime and many more works are nearing completion. Responding to the demand of construction of Lolab road,Vakil assured for taking up of its construction at a cost of Rs 10 lakhs. Mohammed Sharief Niaz also addressed the gathering. |
