5/18/2019 11:08:39 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 18: Fresh traffic was on Saturday resumed after clearing all Kashmir bound stranded vehicles on the national highway, the only all-weather road connecting valley with the rest of the country, official sources said.
Tomorrow is convoy day and no civilian traffic will be allowed due to ban imposed by the authorities to allow free and safe movement of security force vehicles.
Meanwhile, only one-way traffic will ply on the national highway, linking Ladakh region with Kashmir and historic 86-km-long Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region.
After clearing all Kashmir bound vehicles, stranded since Thursday- the traffic was allowed from Srinagar to Jammu on Saturday, sources said.
However, they said, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) were asked to leave Zig Qazigund between 0700 hrs to 1000 hrs and Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) from Zig between 1000 hrs to 1800 hrs.
No civilian traffic will be allowed on Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Sunday, when only security force convoy will ply.
The authorities had imposed a ban on civilian traffic on the highway twice in a week on Sunday and Wednesday to allow free and safe movement of security forces after 44 CRPF personnel were killed in a fidayeen attack at Awantipora in February this year.
However, Wednesday the ban was lifted on the highway.
"Only one-way traffic will continue to ply on historic Mughal road," a traffic police official told .
Today traffic will ply from Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu to Shopian.
However, LMVs had to cross Behramgalla for Shopian between 0500 hrs to 0900 hrs while HMVs between 0900 hrs to 1500 hrs.
However, people travelling- alleged that due to searches conducted in every area often resulted in heavy traffic jams.
Today traffic will ply from Kargil to Srinagar on the highway linking Ladakh with Kashmir.
LMVs were allowed to ply between 0700 hrs to 1000 hrs and HMVs from 1000 hrs to 1300 hrs from Minimarg.
