| In solidarity, Jammu shuts today | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 11 In solidarity with those innocent people who lost their lives in Samba encounter and to lodge a protest against the incident of barbaric violence, the winter capital city of Jammu will observe a peaceful shot down on Monday. Major political parties including the BJP, National Conference and Panthers Party have endorsed the shut down call. The call was initially rolled out by BJP. Being the first to protest, Bhartiya Janta Party has given a bandh call to protest against government failure to curb militant activities in the state. BJP president Ashok Khajuria in a statement issued here said that coalition government's soft policies towards militant in the state have led to an upsurge in the militant attacks. National Conference on the other hand flayed the government for failing to protect the life and property of a common man. "This unfortunate incident has shaken the confidence of the masses from the government, National Conference leader Ajay Sadhotra said. The party held a meeting at party headquarter, here today, and strongly condemned the killing of four innocent civilians including Ashok Sodi, Senior Photo-journalist , Hoshiyar Singh Chairman IDP his family members and two security personnel by the militants in an encounter at Samba, besides injuring six police personnel. The meeting resolved that National Conference identifies itself with the sentiments of the people of Jammu at this time of grief and sorrow. The meeting expresses condolences with the bereaved families and also expressed its solidarity with the press fraternity. "We appeal to the people of Jammu for holding peaceful Bandh on Monday May 12 to condemn this unfortunate incident which led to gruesome killings and injuries to innocent persons", the statement issued soon after the meeting said. Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party has also given the bandh call to protest against the killing of innocent civilians. The party leaders believed that the encounter at Samba exposed the tall claims of the state government. |
