JAMMU, May 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association marked the 2563rd Buddha Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha by the message of peace, non-violence, harmony and co-existence.
The organisation members organised a brief function in Maira Mandlik here today under the chairmanship of Association President Ex Subedar Major Romesh Sargotra, wherein the program began with worshipping of Lord Gautam Buddha and singing devotional songs.
Speaking on the occasion, R.L.Kaith said that Lord Buddha's teachings are more relevant today than that they were at the time he preached people and his followers. Buddha tried to explain people that all the sufferings of this world are simply because of our attachment to these things. It is our desires that lead us to the sufferings, so he has paved the eight fold path: Right belief, right intention, right living, right conduct, right word, right thinking, right efforts and right meditation. Kaith said that if anyone follows this path, he will be away from the common sufferings of life and living. He made people understand the real balance between extravagance and asceticism as well as luxury and simplicity. In his address, Ex Naib Sarpanch Ram Lal Lakhotra said that once we go through the preaching of Lord Buddha we will find they are extremely useful in the present day life. It gives complete peace of mind and helps any person have peace and harmony in life. The main thing is that people need to purify their minds and thoughts today and if this happens, it will bring peace and harmony in the entire world.
Ramesh Kaith said if we internalise the Buddhist philosophy, internal peace and fraternity are unavoidable. It will facilitate unity, tolerance and goodwill among all those oriented towards social development and lasting peace.
While Mr Om Parkash Sargotra said Gautam Buddha remains a symbol of pride for all and inspires all to internalise the spirit of global fraternity of Buddhist religion.
All prayed for prevalence of complete peace and communal harmony in the entire world.
