Exit polls predict Modi magic in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Congress-ruled Hindi heartland states
5/19/2019 8:12:06 PM

New Delhi May 19,
The exit poll trends from South India show that the BJP-led NDA may not fare that well in the region but the West and Central India seem to be standing again with the BJP-backed ruling coalition. The BJP-led NDA is leading overwhelmingly in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

The ruling BJP has got a shot in the arm in Maharashtra in India Today-My Axis exit poll. In Maharashtra, the BJP-Shiv Sena is likely to win 38-42 Lok Sabha seats. The Congress is likely to win 6-10 seats in Maharashtra, where it is contesting in alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party of Sharad Pawar.

The BJP-led alliance had won 43 of 48 seats in Maharashtra in 2014.

In Gujarat, the BJP is predicted to win 25-26 seats. The party had won all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat. The Congress, which gave a tough fight in the 2017 assembly election, is likely to win only one seat.

In the states of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, where the Congress snatched from the BJP in 2018 assembly election, the BJP is predicted to be winning convincingly.

In Rajasthan, the BJP is predicted to win 23-25 Lok Sabha seats. The BJP had won all 25 seats in 2014. The Congress, which is ruling in Rajasthan, is expected to win 0-2 Lok Sabha seats.

In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP is, according to the My Axis-India Today exit poll, all set to repeat its performance of 2014 Lok Sabha polls. The party is predicted to win 26 of 28 Lok Sabha seats. The party had won exactly 26 seats. The Congress is expected to win 1-3 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh.

The exit poll results show a surprise for the BJP in Chhattisgarh, where the party was convincingly beaten by the Congress in 2018 November assembly election. In Chhattisgarh, the BJP is expected to win 7-8 Lok Sabha seats while the Congress is predicted to win 0-3 seats.
