| Bar strike paralyzes court work | | Ex-gratia, job to one member of deceased families sought | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 12 On the call of Bar Association Jammu, the Advocates suspended their work in all the courts, including High Court wing of Jammu, in protest against the barbaric act of the militants in Samba on May 11, 2008 in which several precious lives were lost, besides causing critical injuries to several others. In an emergent meeting held under the Chairmanship of its Vice President Chander Mohan Sharma, the Bar Association Jammu strongly condemned the inhuman and cowardly act of militants at Samba. While paying rich tributes to the noble departed souls, BAJ expressed condolence and observed two minutes silence in memory of the departed ones. BAJ appreciated the courage shown by late IDP Leader Hoshihar Singh, a prominent social worker, in resisting the militants in their designs and also lauded the role of late Ashok Sodhi senior Photojournalist who sacrificed his life while performing his professional duty in the larger interest of public. The Bar Association has urged the State authorities to adequately compensate the next of kiths and kin of the deceased persons by granting an amount of at least Rs 10 lakhs, as ex-gratia relief besides job to one member of the each deceased family.
