J-K should become model among SAARC nations: Mufti

"Jammu and Kashmir should become a model among the SAARC countries by allowing both Indian and Pakistani currency to operate in the state", PDP Patron Mufti Mohd Sayeed said here today.
Defending his suggestions by quoting the example of European Union where a time frame has been fixed for making a common currency among 40 countries for facilitating trade and business and for economic growth of all the countries, he said, "There is already a proposal in SAARC of making a free economic zone and Jammu and Kashmir could take the lead and become a model by allowing both Indian and Pakistani currencies here."
"We have a vision for Jammu and Kashmir and this is a part of process for solving the problem". He observed that there was strong urge for peace among people of India and Pakistan and it was need of the that peace offensive launched by the previous Vajpayee led NDA regime and continued by the present UPA regime headed by Dr Manmohan Singh would be reached to logical conclusion
Addressing a mammoth gathering at Poonch town, Mufti that he along with his supporters had decided to form PDP in 1998 to provide an alternative to the National Conference which had miserable failed to come up to the expectations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
This impressive public rally at Poonch was organized by Yashpal Sharma, who has recently joined PDP.
Taking a dig at previous National Conference regime for indulged into backdoor appointments, PDP patron said, "during our government we appointed as many as 50,000 teachers and all appointments were made in transparent manner". He reminded that even appointment orders were handed over to the candidates at their door steps to bring transparency. "Not even a single candidate was appointment without merit", he asserted, "Our party cadre got annoyed as appointments were without any influence and only genuine and deserving candidates were selected"
Strongly defending his suggestions of introducing dual currency in Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Sayeed predicted that South Asian Association of Regional Council (SAARC) would be emerged as free economic zone very soon on the pattern of European Union where there will be a common currency for all countries. "What is wrong if Jammu and Kashmir should be made an experimental ground for SAARC countries by easing visa restrictions and custom free trade among both parts of Kashmir", he said and hoped that Poonch-Rawalakote road would be opened for trade.
Rajya Sabha member Trilok Singh Bajwa, general secretary Dhaman Bhasin, Ved Mahajan, MLC, general secretary Murtaza Khan, MLC, Nissar Khan, Rafiq Khan, Yashpal Sharma, Hamid Manhas, Imtiyaz Bandey, Raja Gurmeet Singh and others addressed the rally in which large number of supporters of Yashpal Sharma included Rajinder Singh advocate also joined PDP.
