Panel on reservation law holds first meeting

Srinagar, Aug 30: Select committee constituted by the Jammu and Kashmir legislature to look into the amendments to a reservation law for state educational institutions held its first meeting here today.

The committee, under the chairmanship of State Social Welfare Nissar Ali, held clausewise discussion to the amendments pertaining to the Reservation Act, 2004, official sources said.

The Act envisages reservation for the students belonging to SC/ST, socially and economically backward classes in the state colleges and universities.

The panel would meet again shortly to have further discussion, they said.
