Jammu, Samba shut down complete, peaceful

The winter capital city of Jammu, adjoining district headquarter of Samba and many other neighbouring areas observed a complete and peaceful shut down in protest against the barbaric incident of militant violence and solidarity with those innocent people who lost their lives in the barbaric attack in Kaili Mandi in Samba.
Business establishments were completely shut since early this morning and passenger vehicular traffic also remained also remained off the roads till later afternoon. Streets and lanes wore a deserted look for over half of the day. Though the security forces had made adequate arrangements but there were no violent protests anywhere in the town.
It was a voluntary and complete shut down even though the political parties had given a call.
Routine life in the region remained disrupted throughout the day as public transport buses remained off the roads and almost all the business establishments downed their shutters to register their silent protest. Schools and colleges also remained closed whereas banks and several government officers wore thin look.
Different political parties including opposition parties National Conference, BJP and ruling party Congress had given bandh call in protest against the militant strike.
Jammu Bar Association has also extended support to the bandh and has suspended work in high court and subordinate courts. At several places activists of poltical and social organization torched effigies and demonstrated demanding security for people living in the border areas closes to the line of control and long International border.
The BJP activists held massive protest demonstration at Vikram Chowk and burnt the effigy of Congress for its pro-militant policies.
Rajesh Gupta, while addressing the protest demonstrators, said that the Congress has given liberty to all such forces which has been working against the national interests and promoting the cause of separatists and fundamentalists. He said the recent incident of brutal killings of seven innocent civilians and security personnel on the audicious sneaking of terrorist to the Indian terriroty, occupying a civilian house and using it as a firing point has exposed the hollowness of the government’s claims of normalcy returning and militants being on the run. He demanded dismissal of the state government and imposition of Governor’s Rule so that the people feel secure and safe.

The National Conference has thanked the people of Jammu for holding a peaceful Bandh on the call of National Conference. In a statement issued here today Ajay Sadhtora Provincial President National Conference, has urged the people of the state to remain united and thwart all the attempts of divisive forces to divide people on the name of religion and region.
"We have the history of brotherhood and all such attempts to create void between the communities have been foiled by the people of Jammu in past", he said urging the people to remain calm and strengthen traditional brotherhood.
"The credit goes to the people of Jammu and National Conference salutes the people who have always strengthen the communal brotherhood inspite of provocations from across the border", he said.
Appreciating the role of all the political parties for giving Bandh call in view of gruesome tragedy, he said, "We unitedly condemn this incident and will fight such ill motives of the vested interests tooth and nail".
He has asked the government to take effective measures, on war footings, to protect the life and property of the common masses. Earlier a team of National Conference workers led by Chander Mohan Sharma District President Jammu Urban took out a procession, which passed through various areas of the city urging the shopkeepers to close their shops and expressed solidarity with the people of Jammu.
