| Hoshiar’s son says his parents were ‘specific target’ | | | ET TEAM Samba | May 12 ET EXCLUSIVE
• Forces: They were LeT men on mission to attack Army camp • LeT: No, we did not do it, Al-Mansoorian might have done Though vehemently denied by the security forces and Police, the surviving son of Internationalist Democratic Party leader Hoshiar Singh suspected some foul-play or perfidy in the killing of his parents. Lok Sevak Sambyal, a research scholar who had miraculous escape in the militant attack, claimed that his father and mother were specifically targeted by the militants as they were apparently on a mission to kill them. This is, however, not being agreed to by the security forces and Police who maintained that the militants were on a mission to target the Army formation and Hoshiar Singh was killed when he showed resistance. Narrating the incident to a visiting team of EARLY TIMES at his ancestral residence in a village on outskirts of Samba township, Lok Sevak said, “there was a knock on the door at around 5:30 AM Sunday when my mother went up to open. My father was wearing his undershirt when the militants opened fire”. He added that his mother rushed back pushed him to a bathroom and bolted the door from outside apprehending that militants might kill him as well. “They sprayed bullets at my father and when my father raised alarm she too was shot at repeatedly”, Lok Sevak said. When a visiting Police officer showed him picture of the militant killed this morning Lok Sevak confirmed that he was the same man who he saw on the door on Sunday morning. However, he doubted the weapon recovery. The weapons, including AK rifles recovered from the militants were showed to him and he said the militants who had attacked his family were carrying a different type of gun. Substantiating doubts of Hoshiar Singh’s son, many villager gathered at the mourning meeting at his residence today claimed that they saw militants roaming around in the village and asking for Hishiar Singh’s residence. Many of them claimed that the militants were actually on a specific mission to kill Singh. The Police and Army, however, has said that the ultras belonged to the Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit and they were on a mission to attack the Army formations in Samba or its adjoining areas. They said that militants asked Hoshiar Singh about the Army formations to which he showed resistance and therefore they killed him. However, deepening the controversy, the Laskar-e-Toiba has denied hand in the attack. Instead the LeT has demanded a probe into the incident. This is perhaps for the first time that a militant outfit has asked for a probe. A media outlet claimed that a LeT spokesman called up its office and denied hand in the attack. The caller identifying himself as Abdullah Gaznavi said his outfit had nothing to do with Samba attack. However, a purported representative of another suspicious militant organization Amir Ali identifying himself as spokesman of the Al Mansoorian called some media outlets from Paksitan and claimed responsibility of the Samba gunbattle. Amir Ali reportedly claimed that their men had launched three phase attack on Indian security forces and held Indian security forces responsible for the loss of civilian lives in the cross fire. On the contrary, the security forces reiterated that it was a group of LeT militants and they were on a mission to attack the Army formations. We have averted a big strike on similar lines of Kaluchak fidayeen attack where three fidayeens had killed over 30 people inside Army camp in May 2002", Brigadier Chhiber said. Security forces have recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition from the militant. One AK rifler, one UBGL, 10 grenades, 8 rifle grenades, 10 ak magazines, 270 rounds, GPS set ad one cell phone. |
