| Infiltration was not taken seriously: Chaman | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 13 Holding that it was a planned intrusion on night of May 7 and May 8 near the border post of Regal in Mava area of Samba sector, the former Union Minister of State for Defence, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has regretted that the Government at the Centre as also that of the state have not taken the matter with the seriousness that it needed to be. After visiting the spot and in the adjoining villages, Prof. Gupta said that the manner, in which the border fencing has been cut with some highly sophisticated cutters to make a big room for infiltration, clearly indicated the involvement of ISI of Pakistan with the active support of men in Khaki operating from areas across the border. The enquiries revealed that three large groups of highly trained persons took part in this intrusion. One group resorted to heavy firing with different type of weapons to engage the BSF men at the post and also to give a covering fire to the group which was engaged in cutting the fencing and the third group of highly trained terrorists succeeded in infiltrating in Samba and other areas. Prof. Gupta also observed that Pakistan was never a dependable neighbour but it was unfortunate the UPA government at the Centre and Congress led coalition of the state are buckling under internal and external pressures and have lowered the guards, both inside as also at the borders of the state. This fact also came to light that there were very few guards at duty at the Regal post when the enemy intruded and resorted to firing. This poor deployment at this sensitive post provided opportunity to the enemy to infilterate and reach Samba interiors including the locations of the defence personnels. Stressing for full review of the whole scenario and that of the government policies, the former Union Minister said that this intrusion is quite significant as it took place through the International border and that too in the area which has its strategic importance because of being not far off from the Jammu-Pathankote highway, virtually a life line to this state and for other reasons also. Emphasizing for strengthening the security measures, Prof. Gupta also said that this bloody action of the Pak-aided ultras should serve a note of warning to the men at the helms of affairs and also take note of the utterances of those ruling leaders of the coalition as also some others who are creating confusion by raising voices suiting separatism and operators of terror from across the border and Line of Control. He said that because of developments in Pakistan as also the ensuing Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the situation demanded full alertness as the peace would not be possible just by slogans and mere desires. The BJP leader also visited to the house of Hoshiyar Singh to mourn the death of this political activist and his wife. In course of his visit to the border areas, some local activists including Kashmira Singh, Surinder Lal, Subash Bhagat, Omkar, Sanjiv, Shiv Lal Manyal, Narsingh Dayal, Bishan Dass, Romesh Kumar, K. Kumar and others also accompanied Prof. Gupta. |
