Everest climbers Rajeev, Radha interact with students

Everesters, Rajeev Sharma and Radha Devi, who climbed the highest peak of the world in 1993 interacted with young students of Sprawling Buds School, Chinore in Bantalab, near here today.
Both these mountaineers had a brief halt in the city while on their way to Kashmir to attend a function organized in connection with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation.
Son of the Soil, Rajeev Sharma, who hails from district Udhampur, unfolded the untold stories about the mountaineering before the young audience of students at Sprawling Buds School,
Another mountaineer, who climbed the Everest in May 1993, Radha Devi of Himachal Pradesh also shared experiences with the boys and girls of the school about her journey to the highest peak of the world.
Students took keen interest in the interaction and cleared their doubts by asking various questions brewing up in their minds.
Both the visiting guests, who serve with the Himachal Pradesh Government’s Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, remained with the students for around two hours. They educated the students about how mountaineering helps in testing once physical and mental endurance. “Since mountaineering is not a sport as such there is no score for win or loss thus it helps built team spirit, national building, courage and spirit in its true form. So, in mountaineering, one needs to be clear enough because it is only nature that watches you,” said Rajeev Sharma, who is Deputy Director at the Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports.
He also teaches the students a number of things by that help in keeping good health and strong and able mind.
Earlier, both the special guests, Rajeev and Radha were introduced with the students and teaching staff of the Sprawling Buds by the general secretary of Tawi Trekkers, Ram Khajuria. He termed the visit of the Everesters as a `Red Letter Day’ in the small history of the school saying that such moments come rare for an individual to interact with world famous personalities.
Principal of Sprawling Buds, Pooja Sharma presented mementos to the visiting guests as a token of love. She was accompanied by Ramesh Khajuria, Rahul Sharma and Arti Sharma (all Directors of the School).
Prominent among others present were general secretary, J&K Mountaineering Association, Dr C K Khajuria, president Tawi Trekkers, Sumant Singh, Dr Sham Magotra, Sumit Khajuria and Amit Khajuria.
