| In Rajouri-Poonch, Farooq replaces Mufti | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 13 In run up to the assembly elections, the arch rivals Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress are aggressively competing against each other the twin border district of Rajouri and Poonch leaving the Congress a fence sitter. Even though the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad addressed a public meeting in an isolated area of Darhal constituency last month, but the PDP and NC are keeping the political activity hot and engaged in the region with one lot of leaders replacing the other alternatively. Interestingly, in past four to five months, the tour programs of National Conference and PDP leaders are alternatively following each other. When Mehbooba returns from the Rajouri-Poonch tour it marks beginning of Omar Abdullah’s tour and when Mufti Mohammad Sayeed returns he is followed by Dr Farooq Abdullah. In the latest itinerary, Mufti has been on a tour of Rajouri and Poonch districts since Sunday. As he returned from Poonch this morning to address a youth convention in at Rajouri in the afternoon, the rival leader Dr Farooq Abdullah too was in the district at same time. Abdullah, who arrived in Jammu from New Delhi this morning, left for Rajouri earlier in the morning. He had a public meeting at Koteranka in Darhal constituency. Though the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch have peculiar problems and aspirations but both leaders keep their discourse focused in the India, Pakistan relations, trade and tourism through Line of Control. Addressing meeting in Koteranka, Farooq Abdullah has urged both the neighboring countries to take concrete measures so as to advance the dialogue process for lasting peace and tranquility in the sub-continent. He said that both India and Pakistan should work for creating an atmosphere of understanding and confidence among each other for a long lasting peace in the sub-continent. Referring to the visit of Union Minister for External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee to Pakistan, the NC patron hoped that the two sides will move ahead with the peace process, which will not only help in resolving the decades old Kashmir issue but will help building a strong bi-lateral relationship between the two nations. "National Conference strongly believes that all issues concerning India and Pakistan need immediate settlement through negotiations", he said adding; "It is the right time when the peace process should be advanced with more CBMs". Expressing optimism regarding ongoing peace process between India and Pakistan, Dr Abdullah urged the two countries to give final shape to the much awaited trade links across the Line of Control. "We are waiting for the day when trucks will be allowed to move between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawalakot route", he said. Meanwhile, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed a addressed a party meeting in Rajouri Mufti asserted that no power of earth can derail the peace process initiated by his party and the Confidence Building Measures (CMBs) being taken by both India and Pakistan would facilitate to restore lasting peace in the sub-continent. He said that his party has carved out a new path of peace and tranquility in this region and it is high time for initiating some bold steps to further accelerate the on-going peace process. The PDP patron said that his party was credited with ensuring an effective role for the mainstream political parties in the Kashmir resolution process. He pointed out that reconciliatory policies being adopted by the PDP has yielded encouraging response for the solution of Kashmir problem. He further added that it was because of historic policies of PDP that the congenial atmosphere was created for initiating some bold steps in this sub-continent. |
