| ‘Coalition Government’s credibility at lowest ebb’: Rather | | | Early Times Reporter Chadoora | May 14 Coming down heavily on the dismal performance of the government during the last five and a half years, the leader of opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly, A. R. Rather has said that ruling coalition parties are bound to get a sever thrashing at the hands of the electorate in the forthcoming Assembly election for their misgoverence. Rather said that by all standards the creditability of the coalition government has been at the lowest ebb during the period in question. The dilapidated condition of roads in both urban and rural areas, scarcity of drinking water, no-availability of requisite infrastructure in the educational institutions, sky rocketing prices of essential commodities, alarmingly increase in unemployment in the state, unprecedented corruption in high places as also in the administration bear testimony to the fact that government has miserably failed on all fronts and situation is getting out of control. Rather was speaking at a largely attended public meeting at Kanir Chadoora. He said some leaders of the coalition and those supporting it publicly express their dismay over the poor showing of the government. In this connection, he referred to a statement of a sitting cabinet minister reported in a section of press on Mat 12 last in which he said "presently unemployment has crossed all limits in the state, people are dying of hunger but the government appears to be helpless and unmoved, no development is possible in the state till the problems of youth are not solved". Rather said this statement should have served as an eye opener for the government which ahs been making tall claims of development day in and day out. He questioned is there any need to produce further evidence regarding the negligent attitude of the government towards burning issues confronting the state? . He further said that it was matter of great concern that waywardness in the society is going on unchecked and those who at the helm of affairs are least bothered about it. Saying that Kashmir is a place of Sufis and Saints, social evils, therefore, should have no place in our society but unfortunately the situation is otherwise and impressed upon the people to condemn and reject those who are responsible for social crimes. Rather strongly pleaded for introduction of moral education in the educational institutions so that the younger generation is put on right path from the childhood. The NC leader asked the government to urgently assess the looses occurred due to hail storm in upper belt of Tehsil Chadoora and Charasharief and pay adequate compensation to the affected people. |
