| BGBSU launches Arabic satellite channel | | | Early Times Reporter Rajouri | May 15 Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri became the first University in the state of Jammu and Kashmir to have its Arabic Satellite Channel (ASC) which was today inaugurated by former Chief Minister and founder Chancellor of BGSB University Dr Farooq Abdullah in presence of Vice Chancellor of the University Masud Ahmed Choudhary. It is pertinent to mention here that during the tenure of Dr Farooq Abdullah as Chief Minister of the state, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Act was passed in the assembly. The facility will have access to 20 Satellite Channels viz Syria TV, Yemen TV, Abu Dhabi TV, Oman TV, Kuwait TV, Saudi TV, Qatar TV, Sudan TV, Sharjah TV, Libya TV, Saudi Arabian TV, Al-Jazeera Channel, Al-Emarat TV, Asia Pacific, Shamshad TV, Nile Channel, Press TV Promo, Al-Alam TV, Alkass TV and IRB3 TV. Most of these are news channels in Arabic, English and Persian language. According to the authorities, this facility will help students in achieving language proficiency in Arabic by listening to the lectures of experts from Arab world. Students can watch conferences, news, discussions and translation lectures in Arabic language and it will help a long way to the students. The channel will also help in placement of the students in the Arab world as some of the channels of these satellite air special programmes on placement for Arabic pass outs. Earlier, Farooq Abdullah was received by Vice Chancellor at the Sabrang Square and then they had the round of various blocks of the Campus including Centre for Biodiversity Studies where the founder Chancellor briefed him about various ongoing research and extension projects. During his visit Dr Abdullah laid foundation stone of the Girls Hostel in the University and also interacted students enrolled in various courses in the University. Addressing students, faculty members, officers and other staff, former Chancellor announced Rs 50 lakh from his MPLAD funds for the University for construction of Girls Hostel and Gymnasium Centre in the Campus. |
