Jammu | May 15
Stressing for building international pressure against cross border terror and making amends in policies to have realistic approach at home, the former Union Minister and senior BJP leader, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has said that one should not expect much out of the ensuing visit of Foreign Affairs Minister, Pranab Mukherji to Pakistan to have talks with the civil government leaders there as in that country more is in hands of the army and the ISI which have always been calling the shots.
Addressing a public meeting at Dhanu in remote area of Ramnagar, Prof. Gupta alleged that the roots of the problems were created by the Congress leadership first by accepting the sad communal partition of the India in 1947, and then granting a separate status to Jammu and Kashmir to woo the communalism of Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah and his colleagues. This separate status has breaded separatism, fundamentalism and ultimately the cross border terrorism, he added and observed unfortunately the Congress and its allies did not learn any lesson of their follies of pampering religious fundamentalism instead of opting for an national outlook and extend equal treatment to all irrespective of their religion, caste or creed.
The BJP leader assailed the so-called special status granted by the Congress to this state under Article-370 and pointed that to what extent this dispensation has not only harmed the national interests and unity of the country but also jeopardized the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In this connection, he pointed out that in the rest of the country the Panchayats and other local bodies have adequate democratic rights but in Jammu and Kashmir there were never such basic democracies and the certain men at the helms of affairs have been misusing the powers to suit their personal ends.
Responding to the complaints of the local people about the neglect of their areas, Prof. Gupta said that the Panthers Party being a local outfit had never any policy and the awful conditions of the link roads and prevailing backwardness, is a proof of it that what was the performance of the this group of people.
