| CPI (M) holds dharna against price hike | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu| May 15 A day-long dharna against the relentless price rise was staged by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) today in front of Divisional Commissioner’s office here under the chairmanship of Bishan Dass, senior Communist leader. The demands put-forth by the CPI (M) included strengthening of Public Distribution System, restoration of food grain allocations PDS, putting curb on procurement of food grains from farmers by private companies and traders, banning future trading in 25 agricultural commodities as proposed be the parliamentary Standing Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs and Pubic Distribution, cutting customs excise duties on oil and reducing retail prices of petrol besides taking stringent action against hoarding of essential commodities. The speakers warned the Union as well as State Government that its callous attitude to price rise would not be tolerated by the party and people of the country. Among others who participate in dharna were Vakil Kumar Vaid, Mandev Singh, Subash Dogra, Master Brita Ram, Vicky, Parveen Kumar and Jumma Ram. |
