| Potential linked credit plan for Udhampur discussed | | | UDHAMPUR, AUGUST 30 : To generate self-employment opportunities for the rural youth especially living in rural far off of Udhampur district, various financial institutions in close coordination with Line Departments of the district would identify the credit potential under various activities to supplement the capital efficiency at ground level. This was discussed during a Pre-Potential Linked Credit Plan (PLP) –cum- District Level Review Committee (DLRC) meeting held to formulate potential linked credit plan for the year 2007-08, here today. The District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. O.P. Kalandria presided. The Additional DDC Udhampur, Mr. Khurshied Ahmed Bhat, Chief Manager, Lead Bank, Mr. Y.K. Upadhyay, DDM NABARD, Mr. Rattan Lal, Assistant General Managers of RBI and J&K Bank, District Coordinator, Punjab National Bank, Chief Planning Officer, District Officers and Managers of various banks including BDOs attended the meeting. Addressing the officers, Mr. Kalandria stressed the need for formulation of sustainable and equitable agriculture and allied department projects through institutional financing for farming and non-farming sectors. He said sincere and coordinated efforts of bankers and officers of line departments should be made to identify potential linked credit plans. He also called upon the bankers to finance the poverty alleviation income generating units liberally to improve the living conditions of BPL families in the district. The Additional DDC called upon the bankers to visit hitherto neglected areas in far-flung areas like Mahore, Gool, Dudu and Latti and extend their whole hearted support to rural poor to raise their socio-economic status by financing their viable schemes. The Chief Manager, Lead Bank of India while listing the salient features of potential linked credit plans urged upon the district heads to prepare realistic plans of their respective departments so that bankers have no difficulty in financing the projects. Highlighting the salient features of potential linked credit plan (PLP), the DDM NABARD said that NABARD has been preparing PLPs since 1988-89 which project potential for credit deployment, besides identifying non-credit linkage and infrastructual gaps. He further stated that the basic objective of PLP is to map the existing potential for development through credit. The meeting also reviewed in detail the progress of various banks in advancing loans to government-sponsored schemes for the first quarter ending June 2006.
