Samba encounter continues to haunt border farmers along the Indo-Pak border who clutch their hearts before entering their fields.
The farmers say that things had improved over the last few years but the recent encounter in Samba, about 45 km from Jammu, has once again put the fear into them.
“We were working in the fields when we heard firing shots. When this firing took place, all of us ran away,” said Balbir Singh, a farmer.
The farmers added that they had got used to peace in the region that was established after a peace process was initiated by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee in 2004 but the recent incident has reinstalled fear in their minds.
The farmers have urged the authorities to provide them with security so that their work is not affected.
