A meeting of Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was today held under the chairmanship of PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, besides PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, all other members attended the meeting.
Various issues including progress of peace talks between India and Pakistan, current political and developmental scenario in the state, issues of working of the alliance in the state and also related to the elections of the state assembly were discussed at length.
PAC was of the view that the installation of democratically elected government in Pakistan has opened a window of opportunity for both countries India and Pakistan to usher in an era of bilateral understanding and cooperation, resolution of all outstanding issues between these two countries, including the core issue of Kashmir and promote forces of stability in the sub-continent and in the entire south east Asian region.
PAC decided to setup a mechanism for finalizing the list of its candidates during the course of the coming weeks. It resolved to give mandate only to those people who were inspired by the vision and objectives of PDP relating to resolution of Kashmir problem, restoration of peace and achievement of economic development. PAC further observed that participation in electoral process is the most efficacious method for the people to have a governance of their choice and a dispensation that will be committed to serve them.
PAC noted with satisfaction the perceptible improvement that has taken place in the state relating to overall security environment and diminution of axe of violence. PAC observed with satisfaction that despite many hurdles and hiccups alliance between PDP and Congress has worked fairly well during the last five and half years. Occasionally, there have been aberrations and opposition to the alliance from vested interests but the understanding between PDP and Congress leadership which is embodied in the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) has survived.
Consistent with its own declared policies and programmes, PAC would hope that this alliance would continue in future also for the resolution of the Kashmir problem, restoration of peace and development of all the regions in the state. PAC, however, noted that success in this regard will depend on the cooperation and understanding from both the sides.
PAC noted with satisfaction the execution of the developmental works and expressed its hope that the coalition will work in a spirit of cohesion and mutual respect, dedication and commitment to achieve as much development is possible during the remaining period of the present term of the government.
Among others who participated in the meeting were Muzaffar Hussain Beig, Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, Abdul Aziz Zargar, Tariq Hameed Kara, Dilawar Mir, Qazi Mohammad Afzal, T S Bajwa, Ved Mahajan, Haji Nisar Ahmad Khan, Master Tassaduq Hussain, Sardar Rangil Singh and Peerzada Mansoor Hussain.
