| Taking break from hectic duties, GMC nurses dance to Punjabi, Hindi numbers | | International Nurses Day | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 17
Taking a break from their hectic daily duties, the ever-busy Staff Nurses of Government Medical College and their juniors studying at Auxiliary Medical Training School painted the premises of the state's premier Bakshi Nagar hospital red as they danced on Punjabi and Hindi numbers. The beatific figures going round from bed to bed, caressing and consoling ailing souls with motherly smiles who hardly get a time for themselves were seen in altogether different mood. Though the patent dignity that their profession bestows on their personality was vividly clear on the faces, they were all in a mood to have fun and celebrate the day. The occasion was International Nurses Day celebrated on the Birth Anniversary of pioneer of this noble profession Lady Florence Nightingale. The new generation in the line, the students of AMT School who enthralled the audiences with their extraordinary performance out and out sent a signal that their full of life attitude would certainly help them to infuse a lease of life in their patients. The girl students danced on a range of numbers from Punjabi folk and Hindi songs. The presentations were both in-group and sole dances. During the programme the senior fraternity also raised their problems before the dignitaries including Health Minister Mangat Ram Sharma and Principal Medical College Dr Rajinder Singh. But even not getting specific assurance the organizers and the performers did not allow to get their spirits down. However, Health Minister did gave some encouragement to the fraternity when he asked GMC management to institute a yearly award to honour Sisters having extraordinary service record.
