| Hindi play ‘Mujrim Farar Hai’ staged | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 18 Ashok Ghai’s Hindi play ‘Mujrim Farar Hai’ and directed by Balwant Thakur, showcasing the woes of common man and the role of the police, was staged here today at Natrang Studio under its weekly Sunday theatre series. Set at a police station, the play uncovers the atrocities of the system and the victimization of the innocents at the hands of the authorities. The play revolves round a young newly wedded girl who comes to police station with a missing report of her professor husband. Before her report is registered, she is subjected to harassment, humiliation and embarrassment. The cops on duty come with a volley of questions and she is asked to establish whether she is married or not if at all then where is the proof. After she is able to convince them, they frame charges against her for forcing her husband to flee the house and is taken to custody with the order to be kept there till her husband is found by the police. The identity of the missing husband is flashed all over and the situation further worsens when the police at different ‘Nakas’ apprehend five persons with almost similar identities. Before she is forced to accept one among them as her missing husband so as to save the police image before the public, the real husband appears who happens to be a close friend of police chief. Here cops change their color and justify five arrests with the statement that they ( arrested persons) were trying to harass the lonely lady in absence of her husband. The play showcases the woes of a common man who is humiliated and harassed in place of justice as and when he/she approaches the custodians of law. Mohit Sharma played the role of head of the police station, while Kamaljeet Kour played the role of a newly wedded . Others who took part in the play included Gaurav Jamwal, Rahul Singh, Rohit Verma, Ankush Lakhnotra and Mohammed Yasin. Speaking on the occasion, Natrang Director, Balwant Thakur said that in summer the Natrang is organizing several programs, especially for the children, which include theatre workshops, creative interaction on photography, ideography, painting, music, cartoons and dance. |
