| Credit for turn around in Indo-Pak relations goes to Sonia, Singh: Vakil | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | May 18 Giving credit to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for bringing about historic turn around in India-Pak relations and taking initiative for lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir, the senior Vice President and Minister for Social Welfare Abdul Gani Vakil Sunday said that the Congress led governments, both at Centre and State, who are working on same wave length have made it possible to carry forward peace and development process with commitment. Addressing a well attended public meeting at Mir Behri in Dal Srinagar, he said opening of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad, Poonch-Rawalkote roads and holding of Round Table Conferences (RTCs) were remarkable achievements. He said, Azad's vision regarding resolution of issues pertaining to J&K across the table was translated into reality by the Union Government led by Dr. Manmohan Singh by way of providing a viable platform in the shape of Round Table Conferences (RTCs). Down playing the claim of a local party to have any role in the thaw between Indo-Pak relations Vakil said "the international relation is a central subject and any decision in this regard is the prerogative of the Union Government". Vakil said that some political leaders were indulging in raising the emotions of the people by playing one or the other tune for vote bank interests. However, he added that people were wise enough to read between the lines and understand the intentions and vested interests of such elements. He said, "instead of addressing the burning problems of unemployment and eradication of poverty from the backward and cut off areas, these elements are out to sell false and unrealistic dreams". Vakil asked the people to remain vigilant against vested interests and refuse to get emotionally blackmailed by such slogans. He assured the local people that he would discuss their problems with the Chief Minister and seek ways and means to remove the difficulties confronting the people in the Dal area. Minister for Youth Service and Sports Haji Nisar Ali also addressed the meeting and said that people should judge the leaders on their performance and not on the basis of slogans. He said" the performance of Azad led government speaks loud and clear on the ground and needs no advertisement". Former Power Minister and MLC Mohammad Sharief Niaz said that Congress was the voice of people adding that the Azad led government took revolutionary steps that laid the edifice for integrated development of the state. PCC Youth leader and MLC Mohammad Amin Bhat in his speech said that people friendly policies of Azad led government supplemented by liberal central funding has changed the developmental profile of the state. |
