| Science, Technology depptt organizes training-cum-awareness camps | | | SRINAGAR, AUGUST 30– Science and Technology (IREP) department organized training-cum-awareness camps at village Tulwari (Block Langate) and Shaheen Public School Handwara in district Kupwara. The aim of holding these camps was to educate the masses about the measures to be taken for the conservation and promotion of energy especially by using non-conventional sources. Besides, large gathering a number of students and school teachers participated in these camps. The experts of the department highlighted the schemes being implemented for conservation and promotion of non-conventional sources of energy, funded by Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources (MNES) Government of India. Different devices like solar lights, solar water heating system, bio-gas plant model, energy saviors, smokeless chulas, were exhibited in the camp. Print materials were also distributed among the participants. Project Officer IREP Science and Technology, Mr. Javeed Ahmad educated the participants about the steps to be taken for conservation of energy and to promote non-conventional sources of energy. He also gave a resume of the facilities being provided to the people in far flung areas for persuading them to adopt non-conventional energy sources for day today energy requirements. Mr. Javeed said that department is preparing the project report of the identified sites in district Kupwara to install mini hydel projects to generate power by utilizing non-conventional energy sources adding that biomass can also be utilized for power generation through biomass gasifier plants. Later, the best speakers and the students were awarded the prizes. project officer congratulated the teaching staff and the participants for making the programme a success.
