| Vaishno Devi boosts up economy of J-K by 470 cr | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 18 THE INDIAN Institute of Technology (IIT), New Delhi, recently conducted a survey in Vaishno Devi, which revealed the economic impact of Rs 470 crore was pushing in annually due to the number of visitors to the holy cave in Jammu and Kashmir in Katra township, base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi. Official sources claims that more than 75 lakhs pilgrims visited the holy shrine last year, and the infrastructure is being upgraded to meet the requirements of one crore pilgrims annually. The state government is also planning to conduct a survey for the two-month-long annual Amarnath Yatra starting June 18, which is beneficial to the economy of the local area, helping them in flourishing their trade and business. The Amarnath shrine board accords the highest priority to ensure that no damage is caused to environment or ecology of the area. There is no forest cover around the cave shrine, situated at 13500 feet above sea level, but adequate care is being taken to make the routes and camping sites as eco-friendly as possible. Extra care is being taken to ensure that wildlife sanctuaries are not disturbed. The board has geared up to take all possible measures for maintaining health and sanitation. ’’Since four to five lakhs pilgrims visit the cave shrine, the state government is trying to maintain high standards of cleanliness,” a senior official of the J&K government said. |
