| Inter-caste marriage has become a crime? | | Protest follows arrest of a KP youth for marrying a Muslim | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 18 Trouble erupted at Migrant Camp Nagrota today after the inmates took to streets and blocked National Highway to protest arrest of a youth his wife, 2 year old son and parents allegedly for marrying a Muslim girl three years back. Sources informed that a police team from Srinagar accompanied by Munshi of Nagrota Police Station last night allegedly barged into the house of Deepak at Migrant Camp Nagrota and forced the family members to accompany them to unknown place. Deepak who was married to a Muslim girl from Srinagar three years back have a son from the wedlock. As the word about arrest of Deepak and his family members spread, the camp inmates today morning took to streets demanding immediate release of those arrested. The protestors gathered on Jammu-Srinagar Highway shouting slogans against police. They burnt tyres to disrupt vehicular movement on the National Highway sources said adding that the protest continued till late evening as no one from administration turned up to pacify the protestors. While the protestors were demanding early release of Deepak and his family members, it was learnt from reliable sources that the couple was shifted to Srinagar. However, later Deputy Superintendent of Police Nagrota negotiated with the protestors and convinced them to suspend the protest. |
