Advocating a "bullet for bullet" approach to combat terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday said that terrorists have to be neutralised as otherwise they will kill innocents.
"How can you initiate talks with terrorists, who after attaining training from across the border, come to kill you. Either you have to kill him, otherwise you will be killed," Azad said, while speaking at a function organised by the Hind Samachar Group of newspapers to disburse Shaheed Parivar fund among terrorism affected families at Jalandhar.
"We may have talks with the neighbouring country but as far as terrorism goes; there can be no tolerance towards terrorists and they should be dealt with a stern hand," Azad said.
"We are in favour of talks and peace but cannot tolerate talks and terror together," the Chief Minister said.
He said the terrorists wanted to divide the country on the basis of religion by targeting places of worship.
Political parties should not politicise the issue of terrorism and elections should be contested on the basis of policies and programmes, he said.
The governments of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir should unitedly fight against the scourge, Azad said.
He claimed the situation had improved in Jammu and Kashmir during the last couple of years, as was evident from the fact that Prime Minister himself conducted a round table conference in the state attended by all political parties.
Even the work culture in the state had changed as despite terrorism, development work in the state was on in full swing, he claimed.
Azad said corruption was the other major issue, which needed to be dealt with a stern hand.
He said that after the formation of his government, a law was enacted in the state which allowed for the seizure of property in corruption cases.
"Accordingly as many as 14 such properties were seized so far and investigation with regard to several dozen properties are on," he said adding that even a cabinet minister was not spared on corruption charges and had to leave the ministry.
He alleged efforts were being made to revive terrorism in the state, but his government would not let such attempts succeed.
