CME “Rheumatology – Diagnostic Aids” held

A fourth successive CME “Rheumatology – Diagnostic Aids” was organized by Indian Rheumatology Association (IRA) – J&K Chapter of Jammu, which was followed by installation ceremony of new elected tam for year 2008-09 of IRA J&K Chapter was well attended by faculty, resident from Govt. Medical College (GMC), Jammu, ASCOMS Jammu and leading practicing doctors. New team of IRA- J&K chapter include, Patron and Founder President ( Dr Annil Mahajan), President ( Dr Ravinder Gupta), Vice President (Dr Jamil-ul-Hussain), Secretary (Dr Vishal R. Tandon) & Treasureer ( Dr Subash Bharadwaj).
Chief Guest, Dr. Virender Mohan, Director & Principal, ASCOMS, Jammu complimented the organizers for conducting such and informative CME. He said that investigations can not replace clinical judgement for diagnosis of a disease but can only be complimentary.
Prof. Ashok Parihar, presiding guest for the function, Former Head of Medicine, GMC & ASCOMS, Jammu referred the present CME as an academic feast.
Guest of Honour, Dr Parveen Kaur, Former Principal GMC, Srinagar and presently (Professor & Head) Dept. of Microbiology, ASCOMS Jammu highlighted that role of different Serological test in diagnosis of various Rheumatological disorders. Dr Yudvir Gupta, eminent Pathologist & Head of Department GMC, Jammu was the special guest for the occasion. Other prominent persons who took part in an interactive session were Prof. Sunil Sharma (Gastoenterologist), Prof. V.K Gupta (Medicine), Dr MP Gupta (Pediatrician).
Annil Mahajan, Patron and founder president IRA-J&K chapter informed that Journey of rheumatology started in year 2000 with formation of J&K chapter for two last years which is growing in a fast and active manner. He said four successive CMEs, Awareness lectures, Postgraduate & Resident teaching, continuous research and other activities by various members of the chapter has made a significant impact at national and regional level. He said chapter is committed to deliver rheumatology services in all corners of society.
Newly elected president Dr Ravinder Gupta in his presidential address said that he is committed to carry forward this chapter to the heights our founder president and we all have dreamt. He said lot more in direction of community education and awareness need to be done which will be his priority.
Dr Vihal R Tandon (Secretary IRA- J&K chapter) read the work done or IRA chapter for last two years and highlighted the achievements of the chapter.
Dr Rajesh Sharma Asst. Professor, Department of Radiology, ASCOMS spoke on Radiology investigations in Rheumatology and Dr Sandeep Dogra, Lecturer Microbiology ASCOMS Jammu spoke on Serological tests in rheumatology.
All the speakers were felicitated by the invited dignitaries and token of memento were awarded to all.
