| Village Uplift Committee organizes free eye camp at Palli Morh | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 19 Village Uplift Committee, a noted non-governmental organization, today organized free eye camp at Palli Morh with a team of eye specialists from Batra Hospital led by Dr. R. D Sood and his team. More than 200 patients were examined in the camp, out of which 22 cases were referred for eye operation at Batra Hospital. The Hospital has in possession latest diagnostic and treatment equipments due to strenuous efforts and guidance of Retd. HOD, GMC, Dr. S. S. Sudan and Dr. Dinesh Malhotra. Apart from free medical checkup, free medicines and spectacles were also provided by the NGO. Speaking on the occasion, Joint Director Information Mr. S. K Sharma lauded the role of NGO for holding such free eye camps. He was assured that more camps for treatment of other general dreaded diseases like orthopedics, diabetes, BP etc would also be organized. He emphasized upon the need to encourage NGOs like village uplift Committee which are rendering selfless services for the upliftment of poor and downtrodden sections of the society. Besides educating the gathering about the health problems and their treatment, Mr. Sharma also threw light on unemployment menace among the educational youth. He asked the unemployment youth to bring themselves under the ambit of self-employment ventures instead of hankering after white collar jobs especially on handicrafts and Small Scale Industries. President of the NGO Mr. V P Sharma informed the gathering that basic purpose of their NGO is to create awareness among people about various diseases like AIDS, Diabetes, Cancer etc besides organizing free medical camps. Other issues pertaining to growing unemployment among the youth, women education, atrocities on women and certain social evils for which remedial steps needs to be taken in consultation with various state and centre agencies He assured to conduct such programmes in other areas of Jammu district.
