| Young Ritwan wins State Chess title | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 19 Securing five points, Ritwan Sountra, a junior player has won the State Chess Championship (selection tournament) which was organized by All J&K Chess Association at Vishwakarma Mandir, Bakshi Nagar, here. Fifteen years old Ritwan won all his five rounds to top the points tally. Ajit Singh of Udhampur was declared second on the basis of progressive score while Arvindu finished third. However, four competitors, Ajit Singh, Arvindu, Ajit Kumar and Dinesh Rajput had equal four points each after the five rounds competition. In all, 30 participants, including 10 national level players, fought for the top honours in the two-day long championship for men. “What we gained out of this competition is young talent. The junior players gave a tough fight to their seniors, especially Ritwan Sountra, who won the championship,” president of the Association, Atul Gupta told Sports & Allied News. In the final round, which was followed by the prize distribution, Chander Mohan Gupta, Corporator and Ravinder Gupta were special guests, who distributed prizes among the winners. Special prizes were also given away to a couple of young boys who performed well. Earlier, general secretary of the Association, Baldev Raj welcomed the distinguished gathering and briefed them about various activities being organized by the Association.
