| Bullet for bullet approach | | | | The advocacy of a "bullet for bullet" approach to combat terrorism by the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has sounded a sweet music in the ears of hardliners in Jammu as well as in the rest of the country, where a majority of the people have always been in favour of taking stern action against the terrorists, with zero tolerance of the menace. The J&K Chief Minister emphasized this approach towards the terrorists at a function held at Jalander in Punjab organized by the Hind Samachar Group of newspapers to disburse Shaheed Parivar Fund among terrorism affected families. Although Ghulam Nabi Azad's assertion "How can you initiate talks with terrorists, who after taking training from across the border come to kill you and that either you have to kill them or you will be killed by them" has been wildly hailed by all those who plead for hard approach towards the enemies of peace and the nation, yet the same is termed by some as a mere rhetoric and politically motivated to win the sympathy of the hardliners and staunch nationalists in Jammu to consolidate their vote bank in the forthcoming elections. It is generally alleged that Kashmiri politicians speak in three different languages, one in New Delhi and other parts of the country, other in Jammu and third in Kashmir valley, for the consumption of people at respective places. It is also alleged about the Kashmiri politicians that they are staunch nationalists when in power, but when out of power they adopt separatist overtures and overtones. In this respect one can easily cite the change in the stance of Farooq Abdullah, his son Omer and the National Conference in general. When the party was in power in the state, Farooq Abdullah would strongly advocate hot chase of terrorists across the border and LoC and even for bombing their training camps in Pakistan by India. He would also pledge of having no truck with secessionist Hurriyat Conference and often lamented about the Central government giving too much latitude to the anti national Hurriyat Conference. But after being ousted from power in the state, the tone and tenor of Abdullahas has undergone a great change and they have taken a 180 degree u turn. Farooq Abdullah and National Conference are not only pleading for centre holding talks with the secessionists and even militants as well as offering safe and honourable return of the Kashmir militants presently in Pakistan and PoK and their rehabilitation but also invariably charges the centre and the coalition government in the state of engineering split in the Hurriyat Conference. In the light of these bitter experiences about the ruling politicians, the people here have the apprehension that Ghulam Nabi Azad may also change his stance while speaking to the audience in Kashmir. It is notwithstanding the fact that Azad is basically not a Kashmiri but a Jammuite, who always stand by their convection, with the exception of politicians, who have always remained loyal to their masters in Kashmir. |
