Kalakote | May 20
Coming down heavily upon the coalition government in the state for its failure to curb inflation and addressing to the problems of common masses, former Chief Minister and National Conference patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah has asked the people to teach coalition partners a lesson at the hustings and voting National Conference to power.
Addressing a public meeting here today, Dr. Abdullah said that last five years of mis-governance by Cong-Peoples Democratic Party government have brought miseries for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The government, he said, has failed to redress the sufferings of the people especially those living in remote and far-flung areas of the state.
Referring to the steep rise in inflation, NC Patron said that steep rise in prices of the essential commodities including vegetable, puilses, fruits, edible oils etc. has broken the backbone of the common people and has made their life miserable.
He said even though the state has witnessed an unprecedented price hike of essential commodities, the government was sleeping over the issue. "There was not a single step from the Government to control the spurt in prices of essential commodities". He said that the government decision to regulate the prices of vegetables and fruits has backfired and the items which were available at cheaper prices have become beyiond the purchasing capacity of common man.
Dr. Abdullah said that coaluition government which is making claims of equitable development and equitable treatment to all the regions is making false claims as even in distribution of PDS ration, the constituencies represented by opposition MLAs are given less ration as compared to their population while the constituencies represented by ruling coalition MLAs are getting lion's share.
Castigating the coalition government for anti-people and inhumane approach , Dr. Abdullah said that If national Conference is voted to power the party will implement Public Distribution System on the pattern of Kearla which will include 16 items on the list of the PDS so as to give relief to the common people.
Dr. Abdullah said the poor workers of Kalakote coal mines are not being paid salaries in time and every time they have to agitate to get their dues released which is unjust.
"They are not demanding anything which is unjust or un-due, the criminal silence adopted by the government over the issue is not understandable," he said adding "the Government should break its silence and come forward, listen to the genuine demands of the striking employees and redress it". He said after coming to power we will not allow such think to happen and will ensure that rights of the employees are restored.
NC patron said that the poor healthcare facilities have resulted into miseries to many especially in remote and backward areas. He suggested that hospitals with modern facilities should have been built in remote areas so that burden on main hospitals should have decreased. Dr. Abdullah supporting the demand of local people said that Tehsil status should be granted to Tariath. He also criticised the government decision to raise the age limit for constables and Class-IV jobs and demanded that 8th pass shall be recruited as Police Constables and in Class IV jobs.
On this occasion a large number of people joined National Conference and pledged to work for the party. Those who joined included Chander Mohan Sharma, Master Kundan Lal, Rashpal Kalia, Duhmail Singh, Romesh Chander and others.
Dr. Abdullah welcomed them into the party fold and called upon them to work untedly and strengthen the party.
Among others who were present on the occasion included Ajay Sadhotra, Provincial President, S. Harbans Singh, Sr. Vice President, Rattan Lal Gupta, Sr. Vice President, Bimla Luthra, Provincial President Women Wing, Vijay Laxmi Dutta, Bushan Uppal, Ch. Haroon, Ch. Muzaffar Hussain and others.
