Azad lays foundation of prestigious Haj House, directs for completion within 14 months

Srinagar, August 30: – Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that Haj House in Srinagar will come up as another landmark in the summer capital of the state and would be a prestigious complex next to Mumbai Central Haj House having tourist attraction apart from religious significance.
Addressing a big public gathering after laying foundation of Rs. 9.82 crore Haj House at Bemina here today, Mr. Azad said that the prestigious project would be spread over an area of 50 kanals of prime land. He said it will have state-of-the-art facilities like reception lounge, documents collection, baggage deposit, residential block, mosque, ahram tying facilities, administration block, airlines counters, immigration, customs, and foreign exchange counters, parking facilities for 800 vehicles and health facilities under one roof. He said proper landscaping of the complex will be done besides the Haj House will be centrally heated. He said it will also have a library with religious books. He also issued instructions for keeping provision for air-conditioning of the Haj House keeping in view the future requirements. He said boarding cards will also be made available to the pilgrims in the Haj House itself.
Chief Minister asked Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation to complete the Haj House within 14 to 15 months instead of 18 months as scheduled by executing work in double shift for which they will be rewarded. He said the Haj House should be ready by September-October next year so that it could be utilized for the pilgrims at the earliest. He asked the engineers and other executing staff to work with dedication, honesty and efficiency and ensure highest quality parameters.
Mr. Azad said that besides halls, the Haj House will also have adequate rooms. He said to generate resources for meeting the salary of the staff and expenses on account of maintenance of the complex, a part of it would be utilized for tourists and other social functions during the period when it is not in use for Haj pilgrims.
Referring to monitoring of development works for speedy completion thereof, Chief Minister said that besides conducting surprise visits by road to ascertain the pace of progress on various projects, he also undertakes aerial survey of various projects to see for himself the manpower deployed and progress registered.
Chief Minister dwelt on his long association with the Central Haj Committee as its member as a young MP 26 years ago as well as his efforts in the construction of 26-storeyed most modern Central Haj House in Mumbai. He said that since then it has been his endeavour to lay foundation stone of the projects only when land, resources and all other logistics are available and work has actually already started on the ground.
Mr. Azad said that initially only about 20 kanals of land was allotted for construction of Haj House at Bemina but during his visit to the area last November, he took the decision to allot 30 kanals more land out of 80 kanals prime land available in the area so that a prestigious Haj House comes up in the state.
Chief Minister said that on the remaining 50 kanals stretch of land a most modern hospital would be set up at Bemina. He said the hospital will have state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment facilities.
Chief Minister on the occasion greeted the people of the state that a long cherished dream is being realized and Haj pilgrims would get largely benefited with the coming up of the Haj House in Srinagar.
MP Mr. Omar Abdullah appreciating efforts of Mr. Azad for construction of Haj House, said that he as a Union Minister of State for External Affairs got introduced direct Haj flights from Srinagar to Jeddah in 2001-02. He said after introduction of direct Haj flights from Srinagar, there was urgent need for construction of Haj House the foundation of which was laid by Chief Minister today. He also suggested for air-conditioning of the Haj House in view of changes in weather.
