| GGM Science College gets a guest house | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 20 To provide accommodation to visiting faculty members of the colleges of the state, Minister for Higher Education Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak today inaugurated faculty guest house at GGM Science College, Jammu, completed at a cost of Rs. 91.30 lakh by JKPCC. Director Colleges Mr. N. D. Wani, Principal GGM Science College Prof. Vijay Kotwal, Principal Govt. College for Women Gandhi Nagar and Parade Ground Prof. Nalini Kohli and Prof. Usha Jayee, Principal Govt. Degree College Bishnah Prof. Ajeet Angral and other Incharge Principals of newly established Degree Colleges of Jammu region and lecturers were present on the occasion. Addressing faculty members after inaugurating the faculty guest house, Mr. Charak said that the Azad-led government was taking keen interest to provide adequate facilities to students across the state including spacious campus. play ground, librarary, laboratory so that they do not face any inconvenience. He stressed upon the faculty members to maintain neat and clean atmosphere in their respective colleges. He said that on the opening of guest house, the visiting faculty members of the colleges from across the state would be benefited. The Minister said that quality assurance in higher education was the prime aim of the government for which first priority was given to the extension of higher education to every nook and corner of the state to each rush on existing colleges. Later, Mr. Charak chaired a meeting of faculty members and discussed some important issues including status arrangements for new college buildings, admissions and subject combinations, affiliation with Jammu University, funds required for purchase of library books, desks and chairs etc and opening of bank account under various heads. The Minister asked the Principals of the colleges to remain present in their respective institutions and create congenial atmosphere for educational activities. He said that they have to show their worth as it is a golden opportunity for them. He said that ‘teacher fraternity are the backbone of the government and playing a pivotal role to develop the status of the students in the society. He unveiled the important aspects of new higher education policy adding that history has been created and new heights scaled in the field of extension of higher education under three pronged policy of access, infrastructure and bench mark quality during the last five and half years’. To achieve this goal number of degree colleges in the state was opened and increasing the total existing to 72. He said that to achieve the excellence in higher education, fast track infrastructure development has been initiated and imparting of modern and scientific education made rule of the day. The Minister said that the Azad-led government dream to make Jammu and Kashmir a seat of knowledge and to make it the hub of higher education could only be realized ‘if every one of us contributes in this direction’. |
