Buddha Jainti celebrated with gaiety, religious fervour

In Ladakh Budha Jhanti is celebrated in different ways. The occasion is also observe as Buddha’s Nirvana Day and Death Anniversary day of Lord Buddha.
Accordingly to the Tibetan Buddhism, the 15th of fourth month of Tibetan Lunar month is auspicious day, on which the founder of Buddhism. Lord Buddha was believed to born enlightened and died.
Budha Jhanti was celebrated with traditional and religious gaiety in Leh to mark the occasion. Ladakh Buddist Association organized the traditional Bumskor, the procession of the “Ka-Gyur Rinpochey” the script of Buddha’s teachings, translated in Bhoti in 108 volumes.
To bless with the teachings of Lord Buddha, the procession covering about 7 km long started from Chokhang. Vehra while passing from Sanskar, Changspa, Tsemo, Shampuri and culminated at Polo Ground where the main function was held.
The special feature of this year’s celebration was the participation of six Jhankis in the procession which depicts the life and deeds of Lord Buddha.
Participated by thousands of Buddhist devotees from all walks of life, the procession was headed by the marks of Liker and Rizdong monasteries who were tuning monastic music and mantras to celebrate with religious fervor. And followed by the musicians who were tuning with all the traditional music for social fervor.
Express solidarity with people of Myanmar, Tibet and China who lost their nears and dears during recent natural calamities and unrest in Tibet, the auspicious day was celebrated without usual fun fair of cultural celebrations.
Mr. Ven- Tokdan Rinpochey, the president of All Ladakh Gonpa Association was the chief guest on the occasion. Addressing mammoth gathering. Mr. Ven Rinpochey described Lord Buddha as apostle of peace whose message of ahimsa and non-violence has much more relevance today when world is faced with the cult of violence.
President Ladakh Buddist Association Mr. Lobzang Rinhen in his address stressed the people of all walk of life to maintain harmony and unity for faster development of Ladakh.
Khampo Konehok Phanday, Ex-President Ladakh Gonpa Association, Ven Lobzang Wangehuk and few students also spoke on the occasion.
Among others the dignitaries present on the occasion were Ven Rinpochey, Chief Executive Councilor, Tsering Dorjay, MP Phusptan Chhewang and MLC P. Namgail, Deputy Commissioner, Dr. M. K. Bhandari and Executive Councilors Tsering Nerbu Lampa, Doirje Motup, Mohammad Khan, presents of Shia and Suni Muslim Associations, Mr. ES Gergan, the Councilors and District officers.
