| State Chess: Sana Khan lifts women’s trophy | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 20 New comer, Sana Khan today won the women’s state chess title beating the defending champion, Aditi Sharma in the final round. She secured highest six points. Sana played exceptional game to the surprise of other competitors and the members of the Association. “We have found in Sana a good player provided she continue the game and take part in the domestic and national level competitions in future,” president of the All J&K Chess Association and former State Champion, Atul Gupta told Sports & Allied News. However, last year’s champion, Aditi could not find much of a difficulty in beating her other opponents to finish second with five wins in her account. Shikha and Huma Khan secured equal four points each to finish third and fourth respectively on the basis of progressive score. In all, there were 11 participants in women’s section, who underwent five rounds of competition today. Meanwhile, the competition in junior boys group was in progress. About 30 boys, mostly the teenagers are taking par in junior category, the results of which will be declared tomorrow. Earlier, the state championship in women and junior boys categories was declared open by Baldev Raj, general secretary of the Association. The competition is being conducted by senior players, Sumit Grover and Rakesh Sadhotra. |
