| Will Pranab’s gift of romantic musicals to Pak work? | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 20 Will a four CDs audio set, stuffed with Bollywood songs of romance, which the External Affairs Minister, Pranab Mukherjee has carried for gifting it to his counterpart in Islamabd, prove music to the ears of Pakistan Government or not? This question is being debated in the political and public circles in Jammu and Kashmir where people and politicians favour at least end to violence. These songs culled by the Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with a private company are all romantic sung by singers right from Kundan Lal Sehgal down to Sonu Nigam. The first song of Sehgal is meaningful because the composition from film Shahjahan “Jab Dil Hi toot gya” seems to be apt while describing the current India-Pakistan relations. It is hoped that Sonu Nigam’s song “Kabhi Alvida na kehna” could be the outcome of the bilateral talks in the sense the two sides will agree to resume the dialogue. People and politicians in the Jammu and Kashmir expect some miracle to happen. They believe so because even the American President George Bush is on record to have said the other day that the time was ripe for resolving the Kashmir issue. Bush had predicted end to tension between India and Pakistan during his meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister ,Yusuf Raza Gilani,on the sidelines of world Economic Forum for the Middleeast in Egypt Pranabh’s gift to his counterpart in Islamabad is something unprecedented. Hitherto during such meeting the guests and the hosts used to exchange antics, sweets, fruit or some embroidery items. It will be interesting of the leaders in Pakistan, including the Prime Minister and the foreign minister, listen to these Bollywood songs and understand the meaning behind each melody. |
