| Film producer files Rs.5 lakh damage petition against Ravi Bhan in piracy case | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 21 The noted film producer, Ashoke Pandit, has filed a damage petition against Ravi Bhan of Ravi Mech Studios, Srinagar for what he called ‘ piracy’. The petition has been filed with the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association in Mumbai and a legal notice has also been served on Bhan claming damages to the tune of Rs. 50 lakh for the mental and financial persecution caused to him (Pandit) for piracy. According to a press statement issued by Pandit from Mumbai today, the noted film-maker and social activist had released an album containing Kashmiri songs titled "Kashmiri Club Mix". The music of the album was given by Raj Pandit and the vocals were rendered by Neerja Pandit and Raj Pandit and the copyright is with Pandit's proprietary concern M/s. Shaarika Images whose sole proprietor is Ashoke Pandit. A music video has been created of the song 'Chyon Pakuniye' which is a song from the album of Kashmiri Club Mix by one Ravi Bhan of C/o Ravi Mech Studios, a resident of Karan Nagar, Srinagar, Kashmir. Pandit said ‘the production of the music video has been done without obtaining any prior consent from me or any of the concerned artists or technicians. He went ahead with the production of the video in spite of being well aware that the copyright solely lies with me and my proprietary concern and he did not halt with just the illegal production of the music video, he went ahead with the unlawful utilization of the song by telecasting in various local channels of Kashmir, Pandit added.. Pandit said this unlawful act of Ravi Bhan has caused great loss to his concern and the sale of music album. He said this is not the first instance that Bhan has resorted to an illegal way of pirating music in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. He had, earlier been consistently duplicating the CDs and cassettes of reputed artists. Bhan, he alleged, indulges in the act of rampant piracy of their albums causing severe losses to the producers, music industry and the overall artistic fraternity. This kind of miscreants should be dealt with an iron hand because of their dishonest deeds the already struggling hard music industry is suffering heavily, he demanded. Pandit said people like Ravi Bhan never think twice before rupturing the Copyrights Laws and they need to be taught a lesson. In view of this, he said he decided to take legal recourse to deal with him and gone ahead and filed a complaint with the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association in Mumbai and a legal notice has also been served to him claming damages worth 50 lakh for the mental and financial persecution caused to him. "It is a plea to the entire music industry in Jammu and Kashmir to stand by my protest against this unlawful act carried on against the entire music world in the valley state, because such miscreants need to be brought under the books for creating a sense of anarchy in a rather creative arena," the statement issued by Pandit read.
