DOORU | May 21

Reiterating that political parties in government ought to maintain a balance between political and economic development, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti today said that the day her party took over reigns of power in Jammu and Kashmir, it achieved success to a great extent vis-à-vis economic progress and political stability.
Accompanied by party senior leader Farooq Andrabi after a day long visit to Dooru constituency, she addressed impressive gatherings at Nowgam, Kapran and Hangipora. Mufti observed that for peace and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir it was inevitable to achieve success and maintain balance between the political and economic development.
The PDP president said that there were tough challenges before her party the day it assumed power in the financially and politically ruined state where a decade old insurgency had destroyed much of Kashmir's economy. She said that her party withstood all these challenges with its dedication, sincerity and conviction to bring out people of Jammu and Kashmir out of economic and political quagmire. She added that PDP played a vital role in breaking the ice over the resolution of Kashmir issue changing the status quo without challenging the sovereignty of India and Pakistan. Ms Mufti said that PDP heralded unforeseen amendments to the existing political climate of Kashmir initiating a new era of bonhomie and a cessation to hostilities.
She said that her party would ensure that most of the villages of Dooru constituency would be accorded backward status and for that matter the party leadership would take up the issue with the government. She urged upon the government to expedite work on various developmental works undertaken in this constituency. She expressed her concern over the dilapidated condition of Veerinag-Hangipora road and assured people that she would take this issue with the authorities. On this occasion she allocated Rs 15 lakhs out of her Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for different developmental schemes in progress in the area.
