| New education policy on anvil: Charak | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | May 21
A state level policy document on improvement of quality in higher education is on the anvil. A meeting of the committee, comprising of experts and academicians convened under the chairmanship of Minister for Higher Education Gulchain Singh Charak here today deliberated upon the recommendations of expert committee and evolved a roadmap for the improvement of overall higher education in the state. It may be recalled that state government had organized two workshops during March this year, one each at Jammu and Srinagar to deliberate upon issues pertaining to quality maintenance in higher education. The committee headed by Ex-Vice Chancellor Jammu, University Prof. M. R. Puri and Prof. Abdul Wahid Qureshi Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University furnished the report of expert committee to state government. The meeting was attended by Ex-Principal Secretary Higher Education A. K. Angurana, Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Khazir Mohammad Wani, Ex-Dean, Faculty of Education Dr. A. G. Madhosh, Principal, MAM College Jammu Prof. M. S. Bloria, Ex-Head of Department, Computer Application, Jammu University, Prof. Lalit Mangotra and Principal of the host college, Dr. Zeenat Aara. Addressing the meeting of experts Charak emphasized for enhancing quality and assuring accountability of college authorities at all levels so that student community are benefited with facilities being provided by the government in educational institutions. However, Charak appreciated the work of several teachers and principals who are always engaged in improving the educational standards and helping the students in their academic, co-curricular and extra curricular activities. Minister also appealed for people’s participation in identifying the areas, where government should work more and add facility to education institutions.
