| Azhar’s release harbinger of terror in the world: Sadhotra | | | Jammu, Aug 30 : National Conference as a party has always stood for principled politics based on strong political ideology and ethics, Provincial president for Jammu Ajay Sadhotra today said that there would be no compromise on it and national conference will never do so in the future also.
Addressing a press conference Sadhotra told reporters that release of Masood Azhar the harbinger of terror in the world today by the weak kneed BJP Government on 31st December 1999 despite resistance by Dr. Farooq Abdullah the then Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister was an irreparable, what he called ‘Himalayan Blunder’ for which the entire world has to pay a price.
While castigating the local BJP leadership for defending the indefensible, He said, BJP owes an apology to the Nation. “The local BJP leadership is ignorant that the decision to release three militants was taken at the highest level despite resistance by the then Union Cabinet” he said while quoting Jaswant Singh’s “Call to Honour”, which according to him clearly States “The Cabinet was unanimous, of one voice: Reject the demand …..”. Sadhotra who was a member of Farooq’s council of Ministers, said, Farooq Abdullah not only resisted the decision of the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, but also warned him prophetically of consequences because of which posterity shall curse the decision.
Sadhotra said, Abdullah was angry and conveyed his anger in no uncertain terms to Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee, Shri L.K. Advani and urged the then Governor, J&K to inherence and not allow this wrong to be done but unfortunately the Union Leadership governing the country at that time was adamant for it was weak and ready to compromise with terrorism.
Sadhotra said National Conference as a party has always stood for principled politics based on strong political ideology and ethics and has never compromised on the same and shall never do so in the future also.
Referring to the local BJP leadership’s reference to rehabilitation of militants by the Farooq Government, Sadhotra said this was done as a part of a National Policy emerging out of National consensus purported and supported by the Union Government in a bid to bring those misguided youth into the mainstream who either had shunned their guns or agreed to do so to join the National Mainstream. Sadhotra said adding even today National Conference is not averse to a dialogue or an effort to bring those into the mainstream who sun the path of violence and use peaceful democratic avenues to explore the possibilities of resolution of the Kashmir issue.
Sadhotra advised local BJP leadership to desist from a vilification campaign and instead advise its National leadership to apologize to the Nation and the world, seek pardon for having released Masood Azhar along with two other dreaded militants & thereby abetting the terrorism in the World which is today became a global challenge.
Referring to the kidnapping of Rubbiya Sayeed, Sadhotra blamed BJP for being a partner to the decision of the V.P Singh government who succumb to the militant pressure to seek release of Rubbiya Sayeed daughter of former Chief Minister.
He said prove to be the turning point in the history of Kashmir’s terrorism that decision he said was also taken by the union Govt. despite Dr. Abdullah’s stiff resistance. |
