| Chess, Carrom events-a formality | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 21
The way two indoor events of Chess and Carrom are being conducted on mats at the yoga hall of Indoor Complex, M A Stadium, here, it seems that the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) is just completing the formality of holding the inter-school competitions. In fact, both the events require proper infrastructure of table and chairs to play on. When asked the teacher incharge of the competitions, Neena Slathia simply said: “This is what we have been provided by the J&K State Sports Council on the request of DYSS.” Furthermore, the participants, mostly from private institutions, were finding it difficult to adjust themselves in the system. Since the yoga hall has mat flooring, the participants were told to put-off their shoes to find entry to the venue. Visiting the venue in the afternoon, this correspondent found that the concerned teachers were still busy in preparing the draws, what to talk of competitions. When contacted the District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jammu, Jai Raj said, “Since the DYSS don’t have its own infrastructure, we rely on the State Sports Council for basic facilities in almost all the events. If, they (Council) have not been able to provide the required infrastructure, I will take up the matter with concerned officers tomorrow.”
