Jammu | May 22
The Jammu and Kashmir Government will soon sign an agreement with public sector GAIL India for setting up city gas distribution network in eight districts.
GAIL submitted the revised and final draft MoU to the state in March this year in connection with the project. The proposal has been studied by the law department and final touches have been given to it, official sources said.
The law department has also suggested certain modifications to the final draft, they said.
On March 26, 2004, a Gas Cooperation MoU (GCM) was signed between GAIL and J&K Sidco for conducting a survey for laying gas pipelines in the state, connecting it with the company's existing pipeline network in Punjab.
The GCM was then signed by J Wasan on behalf of GAIL and V K Bakshi, the then managing director of Sidco.
The project will help in promoting usage of natural gas, its fractions and polymer products. Subsequently, Compressed Natural Gas would be introduced in the state for automobile use.
During the past few years, the company conducted techno-economic feasibility studies based on gas demand, potential and geographical distribution of gas and allied facilities in the state.
Sidco would act as the nodal agency for facilitating and coordinating the activities of GAIL in the state during the course of implementation of the project. The MoU will envisage setting up of a nine-member co-ordination group that will meet once a month to co-ordinate the activities and set a timeframe for implementation of project.
