Asking Gujjar and Pahari communities to unite for the overall development of the state and expose the elements responsible for creating a wedge between them, former chief minister and patron National Conference Dr Farooq Abdullah has said that his party was committed to protect the rights of the two communities.
Addressing a public meeting, here today, Dr Abdullah said that the two communities were being exploited by some vested interests who have a habit of playing vote bank politics for petty gains.
Asking the people to beware of the vested interest forces who are hell bent upon to create a wedge among the Paharis and Gujjars in the state for their own petty political gains, Dr Abdullah said, "They are exploiting Pahari and Gujjar in the name of Scheduled Tribe Status and Reservation but after five and half year of the coalition government the two communities have realized that the ruling alliance was simply exploiting them".
Time has come to give a befitting reply to such divisive forces, "who are doing no good to the state by resorting to such tactics", he added.
National Conference after coming to power, he said, shall fight for the rights of the both the communities in order to strengthen the brotherhood in the state for which the party is committed adding the party has always stood for secular values and will remain committed for socio-economic and political development of all the sections of the society and shall fight such divisive forces who are hell bent upon to create wedge between Gujjars and Paharis.
He urged both the communities not to fall in the trap of 'divisive forces' which want to get political mileage out of the issue and be united and fight those nefarious moves of the vested interests tooth and nail and uphold the traditional brotherhood.
Among others who were present on the occasion included Ajay Sadhotra, Provincial President, S. Harbans Singh, Rattan Lal Gupta, Senior Vice Presidents, Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari, Javed Rana, Rachpal Singh, M. R Qureshi, Ch.
