Jammu | May 22
Hooted from her own soil and blocked to tell her story in Hindi, the controversial former Miss Jammu and aspiring model, Anara Gupta has now turned southwards to putting her real story on reel.
Nyayam Kaavali –the Telugu film based on real life story of former Miss Jammu Anara Gupta is set for release across Andhra Pradash and other South Indian states tomorrow. The producers and directors of the film claimed that it is a clean family entertainment while the audience are upbeat to see on screen the real life story of aspiring model from Jammu.
Reports reaching here from Tollywood –the Telugu replica of the Bollywood – said the film Produced in Telugu by Soma Vijayaprakash, is directed by Deepak Kumar. The film stars Anara Gupta, former Miss. Jammu, in a real life role. A press meet was arranged today to brief the media about the film, which is claimed to be the real story of Miss Jammu 2001 Anara Gupta, who rose to notoriety when she was arrested by the Jammu Police three years ago for acting in pornographic video. She was booked and a case was registered against her under Sections 292, 292 RPC Immoral Trafficking, cinematography and information technology acts.
"How the lady came out unblemished after a legal battle. Truth has finally won – that is the message of our film. I am confident that the Telugu audiences, who earlier patronized film with real life backdrop like Mayuri and Ashwini, will also like this film and give us big support," Soma Vijayaprakash said.
Director Deepak Kumar said: "The film is releasing all over Andhra Pradesh on May 23rd. The film is a clean family entertainer. Even children could also watch this film along with their parents. For this Telugu version, we have incorporated artistes like Krishna Bhagwan, Telengana Sakuntala and others. There is going to be five songs shot in the breathtaking locations at the mountainside along the fringes of Himalayas and hill stations. Music by Venkatesh will be liked by one and all."
It may be recalled that Anara Gupta was arrested in October 2004. Though Anara was later cleared by a court on the basis of a forensic test report which said the person who featured in the porn film was not Anara, she found it hard to forget the ordeal she had to undergo.
Three policemen were suspended later, and there was evidence of manipulation - a Hyderabad based forensic science lab said that the girl in the CD was not Anara Gupta, while Chandigarh based Central Forensic Science Laboratory said that it was her. In the end, the police admitted there was no prima facie evidence against Anara, and withdrew all cases against the former Miss Jammu.
And, “to get a reason to live,” Anara had earlier starred in a film based on the infamous episode. “I did not want to live after that horrific incident occurred in my life. But after I decided to work for the movie titled Miss Anara, I got a reason to live,” a visibly disturbed Anara Gupta, had said.
On the release of her first Hindi film, Miss Anara promised to take a hard look at the nightmare the former beauty-pageant winner underwent. Besides giving her a career as a film actor, the film has also changed Anara Gupta as a person. Says she: “Before this, I didn’t want to live; now I want to live and look forward to a new future.”
Working on the film based on her own traumatic past, Anara admits, was like reliving the nightmare. “It was very difficult. I would think of the real incident and start crying.”
The film, says Anara, highlights the physical and emotional trauma she underwent and insists that it is not an effort to exploit the issue commercially.
Anara made it clear that acting is just a hobby for her and not a career option. She said she is pursuing a law degree through correspondence in order to get to know the law of the country. “I started pursuing law because when I was pushed behind the bars I did not even know my rights. I became a puppet in their hands. It was then that I realised its importance. In fact I want every girl to know her rights.”
Anara Gupta’s earlier film, “Miss Anara”, produced by K K Yadav, featured debuting actor Amit Rao opposite Anara. Miss Anara and was released on June 22, 2007. However, a court direction disbanded screening of the picture in Jammu.
