| Security forces alerted against possible upsurge in violence | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 23 Whatever commitment Islamabad had made on checking cross border terrorism during the visit of India External Affairs Minister, Pranab Mukherjee, the assurances are yet to be implemented. According to official sources here, there has been not marked drop in the level of infiltration from across the LOC during the last 36 hours. The sources said that sporadic ingress of militants continues from across the sectors of Kupwara,Poonch and Rajouri. They said that despite earlier protest lodged by Delhi Pakistani troops have not removed tall mobile towers erected across R.S.Pora and Makwal.Recently a team of sleuths of an intelligence agency had, during its border tour, spotted six to eight mobile towers across Makwal and R.S.Pora. These towers had been built recently to increase the range of cell phones of militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said that Islamabad has taken no step in taking back over 400 militants who had been brought on the launching pads across the LOC for infiltrating into Jammu and Kashmir. They said those over 100 militants who had re cently crossed into Jammu and Kashmir have been sent to various areas including Kishtwar,Doda,Bhaderwah,Bandipore,Shopian,Ganderbal and Anantnag.Majority of these infiltrators belong to the Lashkar-i-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad.They have been assigned the task of giving fillip to violence by targeting security forces and civilians. Senior functionaries of security agencies said that they are worried after they found that militants were using new call signs on their wireless sets. While trying to intercept wireless messages agencies were intrigued by new call signs which prevented them from decoding the messages. As such the security forces have been put on maximum alert following reports that militants may attempt at carrying out major strikes. |
