| Khushal Kashmir, a mere slogan: NC | | | Early Times Reporter Mandi | May 23 Asserting that the slogan of `Khushal Kashmir' remained a mere slogan, former chief minister and patron National Conference Dr Farooq Abdullah has expressed grave concern over the plights of people living in rural areas, especially of Poonch and Rajouri districts, who have been completely ignored during the coalition regime. Addressing a public meeting, here today, which was organized by Qazi Muhammad Sayeed Beig, District President Poonch, Farooq accused government of being indifferent to the plights of the common people, especially those living in remote and far flung areas. The problems of the remote areas of Poonch and Rajouri districts have increased many folds since the present coalition government took over the reign of power, he said adding that the lack of basic essentialities in the remote and far flung areas of the district has further added to the woes of the people and it seems as if there is no government. The NC patron said that the much hyped promise of 'Khushaal Kashmir' doled out by the coalition government has remained just a hollow promise because of the ruling coalition's failure to deliver at the ground level. The coalition alliance made tall claims to the general masses at the time of elections but the promises were forgotten after the alliance formed government in the state, he said. "The state government in the last five and half years has not been able to perform and live upto the expectations of the people", he said adding, "The total breakdown of administrative machinery during the coalition rule and rampant corruption has taken the state backwards", he said. Coming down heavily upon the state government, Dr Abdullah said that the graph of unemployment is assuming alarming dimensions, which will have dangerous consequences if not tacked immediately. He asked the people not to be misled by the hollow sloganeering of the coalition partners and said, "The development and employment to youth shall be the top most agenda of my party, after coming to power in the next assembly elections". "We are looking to come out with a comprehensive economic policy which will delineate an economic structure which will provide for adequate employment for the people of the state". He said the National Conference does not believe in hollow sloganeering and as such would not make any false promises but the socio-economic political agenda which the party will give in the run up to the elections, the party shall ensure that it is backed up by a competent delivery mechanism so that their benefit reaches to the grass root level. Dr Abdullah said the state has witnessed an unprecedented price hike of essential commodities, while the government was sleeping over the issue. "There was not a single step from the Government to control the spurt in prices of essential commodities". "The inflation has badly hit the remote areas and the basis essentialities have become far away from the purchasing capacity of a common man". While the ministers of coalition alliance were living luxurious life, the unprecedented price rise has made life of common people miserable. The policies adopted by the central and state government, he said, has forced the people especially those living in remote and far flung areas to corner. "The unprecedented price rise had made the life of the common man miserable", he said adding, various rules and regulations were so amended or framed that the government has completely lost control over increasing prices. Referring to the recent visit of Union Minister for External Affairs – Parnabh Mukherjee to Pakistan, the NC patron said "I congratulate Mukherjee for his successful tour to Pakistan and hope that the talks initiated between India and Pakistan shall move further and Government of India and Pakistan shall try to reach to a logical conclusion to bring lasting peace in this region, so that the people of both the sides could prosper". Among others who were present on the occasion included Ajay Sadhotra, Provincial President, S. Harbans Singh, Sr. Vice President, Rattan Lal Gupta, Sr. Vice President, Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari, MLA, Kr. Rachpal Singh, MLA, Javed Rana, MLA, Ch. Bashir Ahmed Naz, MLC, Mirza Abdul Rashid, ex-MP, Bimla Luthra, Vijay Laxmi Dutta, Bagh Hussain, Aijaz Jan, Dr. Shahnaz Ganai, Ch.
