| FONL to go for token strike on May 27 | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 23 To protest against the government’s apathy and injustice being meted out to the lease holders and occupants of nazool/ government land, the Forum of lease holders and occupants of Nazool, government land, (FONL), would go for a token strike at Shalamar Chowk here on May 27. The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Forum which met here today with Injeerjeet Khajuria, Chairman in chair. Forum President SS Pathania, General secretary Gajan Singh, Secretary Iqbal Khullar, vice president Somnath Sharma, Treasurer ML Sharma and Joint secretary Ajay Bakshi were also present in the meeting. Ridiculing the recent decision of the state cabinet to bring some amendments in the Roshi Act providing for permitting of raising residential construction over three marals of land under occupation of the farmers in the rural areas without charging any cost, the FONL termed it a ‘big joke’ aiming at creating confusion and dividing people affected by the illogical implementation of the Roshni Act. The FONL observed that while the government has failed to properly rehabilitate refugees from West Pakistan as also from POK and even those displaced in 1965 and 1971 wars, the government is deliberately creating one more class of refugees by forcibly evicting the people from the lands leased out to them some decades ago for which they have been paying premium fixed then by the government. The Forum has regretted that while the government is regularizing 15 more unauthorized colonies by charging Rs.40,000 to Rs. one lakh per kanal from the occupants, the lawfully allottes of lands leased out some 50 to 60 years ago are being forced to pay Rs. 40 lakh to Rs.1.5 crore per kanal. This, the Forum said, is gross injustice and discrimination against them adding that the Forum would fight this arbitrary decision tooth and nail. Regretting that the assurances given by several authorities in the past including a senior cabinet Minister Mangat Ram Sharma to redress the grievance of lease holders, nothing till date been done to fulfill these assurances as a result of which the occupants have been forced to take to agitational path, the Forum in a handout said. |
