| 190 militant camps operating in Bangladesh: Regupathy | | | Siliguri, Aug 30 At least 190 militant camps are operating in Bangladesh, Union Minister for State for Home S Regupathy said.
These militant camps include those of the Kamtapuri Liberation Organisation, United Liberation Front of Asom, All Tripura Tiger Force, Koch Rajbanshi Rhino Force, the minister said here yesterday.
He said fencing, along the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal, would be completed by December 2007. West Bengal-Bangladesh border area is 2216.7 kilometres long, of which 1,500 km has already been fenced.
The fencing would help stop infiltration, said Mr Reghupaty, who was accompanied by BSF's Inspector General for the North Bengal frontier, S R Tiwari.
Mr Regupathy told mediapersons here that the home department has provided the Bangladesh government with sufficient evidence of anti-India activities inside its territory and asked the neighbour to take measures in the interest of peaceful relations between the two countries.
Asked about the fate of residents of Indian enclaves, who cannot exercise their democratic rights since Independence, Mr Regupathy said the Union government was working on a permanent solution to the problem and dialogue was on with Bangladesh in this regard.
The BSF officials said the land in Indian enclaves was about three times that of Bangladeshi enclaves. Naturally, a total exchange of enclaves, the only viable solution, needed further dialogue after both countries agreed in principle to an exchange.
