Punjab’s Gurvinder wins Gran Morh dangal

Punajb wrestler, Gurvinder Singh of Ludhiana clinched the 28th edition of Gran Morh Kesari dangal outplaying pahalwan Benia of J&K Police in the main bout that lasted for 17 minutes at Gran Morh in district Reasi.
Since Gurvinder won the main bout, he was adjudged best wrestler and awarded a cash prize of Rs 3000 by the organizers while loser, Pahalwan Benia was given away a cash prize of Rs 2000.
In all, 71 wrestlers from J&K and neighbouring states as also from BSF and J&K Police contested for 52 bouts in the day long dangal which was organized by Gran Morh Dangal Committee in association with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.. The second main bout remained undecided after 21 minutes long marathon fight with Baldev Raj (Sonu) and Sunny of Hoshiarpur sharing the prize money of Rs 2000 each. Onkar Singh of BSF also held Dana of Ajnala to a draw in a fight for third main bout. Fourth bout was won by Qasim Din (Billu) of J&K Police outlaying Raja of Ajanala in Punjab. Fifth main bout between Mukha of BSF and Hira of Amritsar also ended in a draw.
District Development Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma was chief guest in this dangal. In his address to the gathering, Mr Verma assured of all possible help in opening of Akhara in the potential areas of the district so as to promote the indigenous game at the grass root level. Earlier, Shiv Kumar Sharma, president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association briefed the chief guest about various activities being carried out by the Association with the help of respective dangal committee.
Shiv Kumar, who was organizing secretary of the event, had special mention about those members and technical committee comprised of Raj Kumar Sharma, Ashwani Kumar Abrol, Capt. Lehar Singh (Retd), Master Puran Chand, Tilak Goswami, Mohd Mushtaq, Ram Chand, Kartar Singh, Master Jugal Kishore, Ashok Singh Lambardar, Sham Lal, Madan Lal, Karnail Singh, Kaku Ram, Som Raj, Girdhari Lal, Gushi Mohd, Ghulam Hyder, Mir Chand, Ghulam Rasool, Gandarb Singh, Ghulam Mustafa, Kartar Nath, Vijay Singh (Biju), Master Ram Krishan and Mohd Fareed.
Other results: Kuldeep Singh bt Sunit Singh, Pavinder Singh bt Attar Din; Rinku bt Inderjeet; Bitta bt Bir Singh; Kartar bt Sher Mohd; Ajit Singh bt Billu; Pawan Kumar bt Sunit Singh; Kulbir Singh bt Pinku; Daleep Singh bt Ali; Karnail Singh bt Gurdeep Singh; Shemsher Singh bt Shamash Din; Ramesh Singh bt Pritam Singh; Sher Mohd bt Sonu; Tej Singh bt Shellu; Puran bt Inderjeet; Kuldeep Singh bt Sohan Singh; Hoshiar Singh bt Rinku. Bouts between Shinda and Swaran Singh; Kuldeep Singh and Harsh; Rumail Singh and Kuldeep Singh ended in draw.
